"BJM" Project Engineer - Houston, TX

 

Summary:
Engineer, design, and manage projects composed of, but not limited to, a combination of drives (such as AC Variable Frequency and DC SCR Controlled), motors, and switchgear.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are essential for Project Engineering. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications.
  • Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients.
  • Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
  • Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of research contracts.
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  • Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates.
  • Creates schematics. 
  • Specifies components. 
  • Prepare Project/Contract specifications. 
  • Generates Bills of Materials.
  • Prepares work & test instructions. 
  • Documents the project. 
  • Supports fabrication. 
  • Submits documentation for Regulatory Body Certification (where applicable). 
  • Provides technical support.  

The following duties and responsibilities are essential for Project Management. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Communicates with customers. 
  • Schedules the project. 
  • Assists in tracking parts. 
  • Assists in final shipment of the equipment and/or coordinated system. 
  • Assists Engineering Administrator in assembling job books.
  • Controls project costs.  
  • May assist with proposals, commissioning, field service, and development projects.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university, preferably in Electrical Engineering; with five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Tools, Technology and Equipment:

Ability to use CAD software and MRP systems preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to create schematics, bills of material, specifications, customer and manufacturing documentation. 
  • Experience with Motor Drives, Switchgear, Generator Controls, & Automation.
  • Excellent communication with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in order to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
